Summary

This fourth entry and prequel tells the story of Lundy, a very serious young girl who would rather study and dream than become a respectable housewife and live up to the expectations of the world around her。 As well she should。

When she finds a doorway to a world founded on logic and reason, riddles and lies, she thinks she's found her paradise。 Alas, everything costs at the goblin market, and when her time there is drawing to a close, she makes the kind of bargain that never plays out well。

My favourite so far, I loved the world and the characters。

I don't even know what to write about this one。 There was so much magic inside my head is still full of it, and I have questions that were never meant to be answered。 It was beautiful。 I love these worlds of this series so much! And it really did have to go the way it went, but I really wish I could change it。 That's the beauty of this story。 I don't even know what to write about this one。 There was so much magic inside my head is still full of it, and I have questions that were never meant to be answered。 It was beautiful。 I love these worlds of this series so much! Rating 8/10This instalment in the series follows another character whose fate we already learned in the first book。 This time, though, I enjoyed the story and the world more than the second novella in the series, so I didn’t mind that we were returning to a character whose story we already knew。I really enjoy the long poem Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti。 It’s story of temptation and sisterhood strongly appeals to me, and I was interested to see how McGuire used those themes in this story。 W Rating 8/10This instalment in the series follows another character whose fate we already learned in the first book。 This time, though, I enjoyed the story and the world more than the second novella in the series, so I didn’t mind that we were returning to a character whose story we already knew。I really enjoy the long poem Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti。 It’s story of temptation and sisterhood strongly appeals to me, and I was interested to see how McGuire used those themes in this story。 What we get is a tale of friendship, temptation, and consequences for Lundy。The Market and its rules was vividly imagined。 I liked the idea of giving fair value。 It really appealed to my strong innate sense of justice。 The idea of paying your dues, and there being consequences if you don’t, gave the story a strong sense of direction and peril。 We already know from the first book what happened to Lundy, but I didn’t feel like we were rehashing old ground with this story the way I did when we got Jack and Jill’s story。I do still think it’s a bit strange when McGuire goes back over back stories of characters whose fates we already know, but it’s always possible that Lundy will reappear somehow in the later timeline, or that the Market will play into future plots。 I sort of hope both happen。 If we could have Sumi back, I don’t see why the same can’t happen with Lundy。I’m glad to say that some of the back stories do work for me, because I was worried that they wouldn’t after not enjoying book two。Blog: awonderfulbook。com | Instagram: katiemotenbooks | Twitter: katiemotenbooks 。。。more

This is the story of Lundy and her portal world。 It was good, but not one of my favorites。 I got a little frustrated with her at times。

At this point it’s safe to say this is one of my all time favourite series!

3。5。 At this point, I found the book to be a bit predictable, but solid writing over all and a pleaser for those who crave the back story for series characters

3。5 starsWhile fun to learn more about the goblin market and how it works and how Lundy came to be how she is, it didn't add as much to the overall story as I would have liked。 I also would have liked to have seen the questing and things like that instead of just being told about them。 All that being said it was still a good read and I enjoy the darker side of fairy tales。 I quite like the way the market runs and the rules enforced there。 3。5 starsWhile fun to learn more about the goblin market and how it works and how Lundy came to be how she is, it didn't add as much to the overall story as I would have liked。 I also would have liked to have seen the questing and things like that instead of just being told about them。 All that being said it was still a good read and I enjoy the darker side of fairy tales。 I quite like the way the market runs and the rules enforced there。 。。。more

I continue to find the Wayward Children follow-ups to be interesting but not feel。。。necessary? The first one was so enthralling, and the rest seem to be mostly filling in gaps it was more interesting left unfilled。 Lundy's story is entertaining, and very sad (as one might guess), but I don't feel like in the end I've learned that much more than what I got from her description in the first book。 But it's still beautifully written。 I continue to find the Wayward Children follow-ups to be interesting but not feel。。。necessary? 1。5 starsWARNING: Unpopular opinionI don't really get why everyone loved this and cried at the end。 Lundy was just getting what she deserved, no tears necessary。 At the start, when she made friends with Moon, what was that? It felt like platonic insta-love。 And ALL the most important events were just skipped。 A MAJOR character death that she cries about later。 DEFEATING A WASP QUEEN, you don't get to hear about it till after。 1。5 starsWARNING: Unpopular opinionI don't really get why everyone loved this and cried at the end。 Lundy was just getting what she deserved, no tears necessary。 At the start, when she made friends with Moon, what was that? My favourite world out of all the worlds introduced so far in the series, and I absolutely loved Lundy and the accompanying narration voice。 The first half was excellent, but the execution imo somewhat lacked tension towards the end。

Even though it had only been a few weeks since I finished Beneath a Sugar Sky but it was so nice to be back within the world of Wayward Children。 I definitely liked this one better than Beneath a Sugar Sky and the Goblin Market was super cool。 I love the contrasts between all of the worlds that we have been introduced to in the Wayward Children series。 Similarly, with Down Among the Sticks and Bones, this was told from an almost omniscient point of view which isn't my favorite but since I didn't Even though it had only been a few weeks since I finished Beneath a Sugar Sky but it was so nice to be back within the world of Wayward Children。 I definitely liked this one better than Beneath a Sugar Sky and the Goblin Market was super cool。 I love the contrasts between all of the worlds that we have been introduced to in the Wayward Children series。 Similarly, with Down Among the Sticks and Bones, this was told from an almost omniscient point of view which isn't my favorite but since I didn't know much about Lundy I was still motivated to continue through the book。 I can't wait to continue on with the Wayward Children series and I don't know what I am going to do when I'm finally caught up。 。。。more

In an Absent Dream was a joy to read。 After Beneath the sugar sky being somewhat lackluster for me, this was exactly what I needed。 I'd heard a lot of mixed reviews on this installment of the series but for me I thought it was amazing。 Traveling to the Goblin Market alongside Lundy felt like a tragic fairytale I would have heard in my childhood。 The setting felt so familiar to me and it truly did feel like coming home。 I think that's the only way I can describe this book。 Please read it! Man, I really wanted more out of Lundy's story! I enjoyed hearing about her time in the Goblin Market and learning what everything--including friendship--was really worth。 But I found myself wanting to know less about her relationship with her sister and more about her life as a grown up child before she found Eleanor West。 They also seemed to gloss over her adventures! Ummm。 I am not sure what to write for a review here。 At points i like this world more compared to the previous ones because it seems beautiful and it was logical, at the same time lundy annoys me to the core。She was so strict about following the rules but she was not ready to compromise for things and was greedy all together。 The Goblin Market seems like such a beautiful place but we were not able to explore much of it, neither we were able to explore the adventures Lundy had and were just told Ummm。 I am not sure what to write for a review here。 At points i like this world more compared to the previous ones because it seems beautiful and it was logical, at the same time lundy annoys me to the core。She was so strict about following the rules but she was not ready to compromise for things and was greedy all together。 The Goblin Market seems like such a beautiful place but we were not able to explore much of it, neither we were able to explore the adventures Lundy had and were just told to us like things happening Behind the Scene。It was a fun yet frustrating read。 。。。more

This book was super interesting for the faerie lovers! I loved the goblin market and all of the logic and rules that are applied to Lundy's origin story。 It was interesting that she was allowed to come back to the world so many different times instead of having to stay away once she left once。 I thought that was an interesting aspect。 I actually really liked the way this ended, though I was surprised by it!Content WarningsModerate: Death, Child death, and Grief This book was super interesting for the faerie lovers!
